The Atlanta Photography Workshop is for the photographer ready to take the next step.

Reaching beyond the technical issues of photography, a select group of advancing photographers will spend Friday evening, October 9th and all day Saturday, October 10th viewing and discussing their images - engaged in lively and sophisticated conversation with creative, accomplished professional photographers in a friendly and encouraging setting.

The Atlanta Photography Workshop provides a supportive environment for those photographers who are confident in their mastery of the technical essentials of the medium, but who want to move past the nuts and bolts issues to the more substantive considerations of developing a personal way of seeing.

The Workshop will address the significant and complex issues of cultivating a personal vision, moving beyond cliché, clarifying artistic intentions, and developing long-range strategies and personal goals. It will also help participants identify and distinguish personal directions and themes for greater clarity in portfolio preparation.

The spirit of the Atlanta Photography Workshop is candid and adult. We consider photography to be among the most powerful artistic disciplines ever created. We think of expressive photography as a life-long involvement, and the Workshop will reflect that philosophy. The atmosphere is warm and far from somber, but the intent is quite serious. We encourage direct, sometimes blunt discussion. It is not for beginners.

We want the experience of the Atlanta Photography Workshop to be richly rewarding for committed individuals who feel that they have something to say through the power of the photographic medium. Our intention is to assist dedicated individuals develop personal confidence and fulfill their personal artistic promise over time. We see the development of a unique vision as an evolutionary process that grows and changes with direct experience. We anticipate that each participant will be at different stage of that process, but that all are on the same path. Our goal is to move each individual photographer further along that path through shared, intimate conversation with others of like mind.

The Atlanta Photography Workshop is open to photography of all types and methods:

traditional or digital, straight, manipulated and experimental. Our focus is on images rather than techniques, although technique will be discussed within the context of the images. We do expect that your chosen methods support your images, as well as your artistic intentions, with a high degree of technical competence and visual maturity.
